How does Hydrotherapy work?

Hydrotherapy provides an environment of warmth and reduced weight bearing, which allows for effective treatment of many injuries and conditions, which are not possible with on land treatment and exercise.  The ability to position the body while immersed in water and use the buoyancy and resistance of water, aids the effectiveness of the treatment and exercise programs.

The benefits of Hydrotherapy include:
  • Early rehabilitation post injury or surgery with graduated weight bearing where required
  • Muscle strengthening
  • Improving flexibility
  • Relaxation/Stress relief
  • Pain relief
  • Improving balance and mobility
  • Improving cardiovascular fitness
  • Increasing blood flow and circulation
  • Increasing metabolic rate for low impact weight loss programs
As well as providing treatment for pain relief, physiotherapists also have an important role in injury prevention and minimizing recurrence. Our physios will conduct thorough assessments of posture, movement patterns, strength and function, enabling them to provide the right treatment, tailored exercise programs and education specific to you.

Bendigo Hydrotherapy

Physiotherapy Centre Bendigo has a number of experienced hydrotherapy physiotherapists who will develop suitable programs for you. Before undertaking a hydrotherapy program, you will be assessed by our physios to ensure medical safety and your suitability for a hydrotherapy program. You do not need a doctor’s referral, unless you have specific medical conditions, which you will be advised of at your assessment.

Group or one-on-one sessions are used to establish suitable programs for each individual. These sessions can then be continued or transitioning to independent sessions is often recommended, with periodic programs reviews for progression recommended.
